Emerging Occupations

ICTC is committed to identifying new and emerging Information and Communications Technology (ICT) occupations that impact the labour market. This will allow ICTC to better understand the role, competency requirements and supply and demand conditions of key occupations. ICTC undertakes primary and secondary research, including engagement with industry, academia and government, to achieve these goals.

More specifically, ICTC defines emerging ICT occupations and develops standardized definitions of the skills and competencies required to perform them. This undertaking better prepares potential workers for a career in these fields and informs human resource practitioners when recruiting for these evolving occupations.  ICTC also identifies and prioritizes practical and efficient solutions to address supply and demand requirements for new and emerging occupations.

Currently, ICTC is in the process of completing its first key study in emerging ICT occupations, entitled, Business Analysts and the Digital Economy: HR Capacity. In addition to providing insight into the role of Business Analysts, the key aim of this study will be to propose a portfolio of best practices that could be implemented by industry and government stakeholders to address the current and projected imbalance between the demand and supply of Business Analysts over the next five years.
