Info For Educators

Knowing you’ve made a difference in someone else’s life can make all the difference in your own.

That’s why you took on this job. You want to see your students to excel – in the classroom and beyond. Ensure they’ll learn what they really need to know: Champion the Focus on Information Technology program in your school.

FIT is a special two-year course of study, encompassing grades 11 and 12, created to prepare students for a world that runs on technology. It is much more than a tech class: FIT provides students with the essential skills and business knowledge they’ll need to lead the way in our new, computer-driven economy.

In practical terms, the FIT program provides high-school students with many valuable advantages. Lessons learned through the two-year business simulation model, for instance, along with FIT-assisted summer job, youth apprenticeship or co-op placements, give them vital real-world experience.

As well, upon successful completion of the program, students receive a nationally recognized FIT certificate. They will also be ready to write both the A+ and Network+ certification exams. These, combined with 200 hours of relevant work experience, will qualify them for the National FIT Plus Certificate from the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). Even before they apply to college, university, or their first adult job, your students will be positioned several steps ahead of the pack.

Pilot studies have shown that more than 90% of FIT graduates go on to post-secondary education, where they can receive advanced standing for their studies through negotiated articulation agreements. College-level technology instructors have found that FIT graduates on average achieve marks that are 16–20% higher than those of other students, and often act as classroom mentors.

Through FIT’s proven program, students become empowered, discover the ability to learn on their own, stretch their imaginations, acquire new skills, and showcase their talents. In short, they become everything you know they’re capable of.

“When FIT came along, we found it was a perfect match ... It gave more structure to what we were already doing. The FIT program expanded on and formalized what was already being taught, and gave the whole new package a title.”
