Industry Involvement

We need next-generation ICT professionals now. So – where are we going to find them?

Anybody who works in the ICT industry knows it is a powerful driver of economic growth.  Throughout every business sector in Canada, the demand for qualified professionals is increasing exponentially. But if this country is going to stay on top of the game and remain globally competitive, we need a workforce that’s not only competent but innovative, not just proficient but efficient and effective.

Focus on Information Technology’s simulated business model teaches students how to:

  • build, set up, and maintain computers and networks
  • write and execute business and marketing plans
  • prepare budgets, price jobs, write invoices and manage inventories
  • work in teams to develop workplace skills
  • communicate effectively with clients and co-workers

By graduation from Grade 12, students in the FIT program are fully prepared to write both the A+ and Network+ certification exams. These, combined with the nationally recognized FIT program and 200 hours of relevant work experience, will entitle students to the National FIT Plus Certificate from ICTC, as well as advanced standing in many post-secondary ICT degrees and diplomas. Over 90% of FIT graduates move on to post-secondary education, where they consistently score marks 16–20% higher than those of their classroom peers.

FIT students are also encouraged to boost their ICT knowledge base with specialized concentrations in data management, networking systems and computer security. Such advanced schooling not only adds to their overall understanding of the market, it makes them more marketable to you, their potential employers.
