What are you going to do after high school?
They’re all asking where you want to go from here. A job, college or university – make up your mind, choose a career, decide.
Maybe what you really want is to keep your options open, at least until you find something that totally suits you.
The Focus on Information Technology program lets you do just that. It teaches Information & Communications Technology along with real-world skills that can be applied to virtually any job or higher educational opportunity. FIT makes you more marketable to potential employers, more capable of moving upwards and across a broad range of industries and professions – and better prepared than your peers for life after high school.
Through FIT, you can finish secondary school with:
- advanced standing for future studies
- valuable career-ready skills
- certified accreditation that is recognized by employers across Canada
If you have a feel for computers, kick-start your future. Enrol in the two-year FIT program, starting in Grade 11.
How FIT works
The FIT program runs during ordinary class time. You’ll be able to grasp what you need to know via practical, hands-on instruction, and you’ll be able to put your new skills directly to work in the classroom. It’s quite an education.
| “It was unique – an open learning environment. You learn the academic side, but it’s more about how you manage your time, assess a project and set goals.” ̵ Ryan Clark, FIT Student |
Upon successful completion and graduation, you will receive the nationally recognized FIT certificate, and as well be ready to write the A+ and Network+ certification exams, should you choose to do so. With A+ and Network+ certifications and 200 hours of relevant work experience, you’ll be entitled to the National FIT Plus Certificate from the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC).
You may also qualify for advanced standing in post-secondary studies, giving you a head-start on a technology diploma or degree. Regardless of the type of post-secondary technology degree, according to a poll of college instructors, FIT students generally graduate with marks that are 16–20% higher than those of other students. This in itself can prove quite a significant factor when it comes time to get yourself into the career you really want.
“It was really great. FIT gave me a better understanding of what we were learning. I’m building on that now at BCIT.” – Brian Walker, FIT Student
