The Integrated Work Experience Strategy (IWES) is a bridge-to-work pilot program for Internationally Educated ICT professionals looking to find work in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector.
Targeting unemployed or underemployed internationally educated ICT professionals, the 6 week training program plus workplace practicum fills a gap by addressing employment barriers for highly skilled ICT IEPs, helping ICT IEPs create a pathway to meaningful employment in the ICT industry.
The integrated model includes the following industry identified training dimensions:
- Workplace Cultural Intelligence
- Workplace Communication
- Business Networking Experience
- Connection to Community
- Guided Work Experience
IWES Participants have:
- Improved integration socially, economically and culturally;
- Increased awareness of strengths and areas for development;
- Developed a sense of career management in the labour force;
- Enhanced self-esteem and confidence;
- Stronger connection with the broader community.
For Employers, IWES Program Participants will:
- Integrate smoothly into your workplace;
- Have insights and training on Canadian workplace culture and communications;
- Have recent business, networking and volunteer experience in Canada;
- Have been rigorously screened and selected for the program based on employment-readiness and have completed a highly intensive training program;
- Be prepared to start working for you!

Funding:
The IWES Program in Ontario is funded by the Government of Ontario, who receives support for some skills training programs from the Government of Canada. IWES is currently operating in Markham in partnership with JVS Toronto.
IWES was originally developed under ICTC's Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP) Integration Initiative, funded by the Government of Canada's Foreign Credential Recognition Program. The first IWES program was piloted in Vancouver, British Columbia in partnership with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Two intakes were completed. There are no further intakes scheduled in Vancouver.
