ICTC Releases Legacy Applications Trend Report

ICTC released a Legacy Applications Trend Report to identify issues in the Canadian ICT sector pertaining to legacy systems. One issue cited in the report is the growing problems surrounding the maintenance of aging hardware and software systems with the experienced talent pool decreasing every year.

The ICT sector is facing an impending skills gap with Legacy systems. The report explains that this gap is directly related to the future retirement of the Baby Boomers. ICTC’s Legacy Applications Trend Report explains that the boomers will exit the work force taking with them the necessary skills and knowledge of these legacy systems. What remains is a lack of skills infrastructure and complete documentation.

This ICTC report points to a skills gap of about 1,700 workers a year due to the retirement of Baby Boomers. However, there are three factors which could potentially reduce the skills gap.
